Tuesday, October 31
oh my boys had such a day! We visited daddy's work and they got loaded with candy. We got pizza from papa murphy's and they had out COOKIE DOUGH to kids in costume. They walked the neighborhood and have more candy that two kids can eat (good thing they have nice parents willing to help!)...AND it's FREEZING outside! brrrrrrrrrrr...
Here are a few pictures for your viewing enjoyment.
and um, we're still working on getting the eyeliner mustaches off. :)
In South Dakota you have to be creative with warming up your halloween costumes. BOTH boys had long underwear on and extra t-shirts. Levi also had a stocking hat UNDER his conducter's cap. Caleb has long underwear AND slicky pants on under the costume pants and a long sleeved t-shirt AND a sweatshirt under the costume shirt - and then a headband ear warmer thingy under his hat as well. They were NOT impressed when we made them put on coats! But it's FREEZING OUT THERE!

and that's what I did. Last Friday Caleb had off school so Jason took a vacation day and we just enjoyed the day. We headed over to Sioux Falls with no agenda other than to do a tiny bit of shopping, some eating out and have a whole lot of fun.
Well...we did it all. We shopped some - mostly me at scrapbook stores, but didn't actually buy much. We ate - GOOD! We had the spicy pickle for lunch - which is becoming my favorite place to go. (really good panini sandwiches) and we had dinner at cici's pizza. Jason's new favorite place to go - and I THINK Caleb's too.
Jason was amazed, but I didn't even take my camera. I just enjoyed a great day with my guys.
We even took the monkeys to the park.
I marveled at Levi and how big he is. I giggled when he kicked his foot and his SHOE went flying down the slide. I cringed when Caleb was climbing as high as he could in the tower and Levi followed him. I shook my head when Levi had to have help getting down. I laughed when Jason spun them around and around on the tire swing AND laughed when an almost green faced Caleb had to get off or "barf" and all the while Levi begged for more. I enjoyed my boys being boys and watching their daddy chase them around the playground. I was amazed and scared at how high Caleb can climb on the jungle gym thing. I LAUGHED (probably a little too much) when my not so young husband went down the bumpy slide and Levi asked him "daddy, did that hurt your behind?" I wasn't behind the camera. I wasn't TRYING hard to remember every moment and every word said so I could put it in a scrapbook. It was nice. Sometimes I need to do more enjoying and less recording I guess...
it was fun.
but you I must tell you about CiCi's pizza. I thought Jason was going to "Woohoo" when he found out they built one in Sioux Falls and again when he found out that Levi eats for free. Levi was giddy over all the choices of pizza. BUT Caleb finally met his match at CiCi's. There it was on the buffet - seemingly JUST FOR HIM...it was...
MACARONI AND CHEESE PIZZA! no lie. I swear I think he heard angels singing. It was the best moment of his life. My little carb/starch loving child... He had FOUR pieces of pizza, THREE cheesy breadsticks, TWO servings of squiggley noodles with alfredo sauce, a brownie and a cinnamon roll... (Matt Keller - somehow I really believe you are responsible for this. I don't know how - but I know it was you!)
where does he put it all?
we were full and happy. It was a GREAT day!

Well, things are MUCH better than when I last typed. Sometime when we have this all figured out - I'll type about it. No one was sick, nothing super bad - just a "legal" kind of mixup that caused lots of stress and lack of sleep last week. :)
THIS week - is going to be busy! Today - lots of house cleaning. Tuesday - Tastefully Simple party at my house. yum-o! Can't wait to have friends over and EAT... Wednesday - Bible Studay and Awana - it's funny hat night at Awana - I'll be sure to get a pic of Caleb. Thursday - Caleb's last day of school for the week, He has a Fall thing at school that they can wear their halloween costumes to, AND it's the Trunk or Treat at the middle school - so I think we'll check that out! Then FRIDAY Caleb's off school, so Jason's taking off work and we're going to Sioux Falls! WOOHOO! I plan to do some scrapbook shopping, maybe a little Christmas shopping, some fun eating out, and who knows what else! :)
So yeah...not much interesting to report. But we ARE doing better! Thanks for the prayers! And there will be lots of pictures coming up! Stay tuned...
oh - and my 5 things a day - I'll do 5 for this weekend!
1. Kids and I had a great time at Laine's Volleyball Tournament Saturday!
2. Got lots of things accomplished around the house - feels good!
3. We went out to eat at Ruby Tuesday with my parents and grandma Saturday night!
4. I got a nap yesterday afteroon.
5. Levi told me that a scrapbook layout I was working on was "just beautiful Mommy!"

I can't go into detail right now - be we have some stressful stuff going on - If you would - we'd appreciate prayer. For wisdom and patience and ...
really, I don't even know what else.
All things though Christ who strengthens me right?
I have been inspired by a couple of friends (Dorothy and Monica) - to list every day 5 good things that happened that day. Today I need that more than ever so here we go.
1) I had Bible Study with my great group of women who encouraged me.
2) I made DELICIOUS stirfry for dinner.
3) My adorable husband made me a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.
4) I got a shower today. (hey, when you're a mom - sometimes that's a miracle!)
5) Caleb started awana today and loves it, and Levi and I spent the afternoon snuggled in my bed reading books. sigh...they're adorable.
more soon - I promise!
Love you people!

This weekend was fun. We "swapped work" with my folks. First we went to Highmore on Friday. Kids played outside all day Saturday and Jason helped my dad do a bunch of work on his building. They got all four windows in! It is really looking great. The guys come to do the cement work today. The boys are already making plans to ride bikes, drive remote control cars, rollerblade, and play basketball in there. :)
Saturday it was so fun to watch the boys play on my parent's propane tank in their backyard. Drew and I used to spend SO much time playing on that thing. It was a horse, a covered wagon, a boat, a pirate ship, a race car - you name it. Just fun to see the boys doing the things I used to do. :)
We also squeezed lots of family visiting in as well which is always fun.
THEN on Sunday after Church and a little more work - we ALL loaded up and headed to our house. We stopped along the way and saw Fredel and Jason's new house. That was fun!
Here at our house Jason and my dad worked on several projects. They put a new sump pump in the basement and put a piece of rain gutter on the house where it didn't have any. Hopefully these two things will help our water in the basement problems.
Unfortunatly - after ALL that work on his building with NO injuries (well, Jason's stitches - but no injuries to my DAD!) my dad broke his finger putting up my stupid rain gutter yesterday. Pinched it with the rivet gun or something like that. Whatever he did it was sure hurting him. I felt SO BAD!
To finish up the long weekend Caleb had a soccer game last night. Mom had seen him practice once, but dad's never made it to a game. Caleb was SO excited to have them there. Even though it was FREEZING - we had fun. Caleb scored another goal! Making it four for the season so far I think! Hard to take pictures with my gloves on. :) But I did snap this one...
Busy week this week - Jason's going to be out of town a bunch of days for work, Caleb has another soccer game TONIGHT... But we'll make it. Nothing planned for this weekend other than some work around the house!

Dorothy inspired me today to blog about my kitchen. There is SO much stuff in my tiny kitchen that means SO MUCH to me.
The walls are yellow...very pale yellow. We painted before we moved. J wasn't sure about the yellow - but he agreed. :) We got brand new appliances when we moved in here - they're stainless steel and black. My NEXT idea for the kitchen REALLY scared Jason. I wanted RED cabinets. They were already painted. Kind of an ugly cream dirty looking color - and I already have a bunch of flag stuff for my kitchen. He finally surrendered and RED IT WAS! IT took him FOREVER to paint them - like primer and then four or so coats of paint! But the finished result is BEAUTIFUL!
Now for all the meaningful things...first - is the enamelware aka speckleware. This is the blue stuff up above the cupboards. These belonged to Jason's mother. I'm so thankful that Tina let me keep them. I think they're beautiful up there! Then up there are several other miscelanous trinkets from here or there.
The window is another special place. I LOVE hanging those pictures like that - I got that idea from my good friend Faith in Iowa. The copper jello molds above the window were one of the only things Jason wanted from his grandmother's kitchen. They're really old and they get LOTS of funny looks. :) Then the "curtain" I did that using some of the dish towels that Jason's grandmother had embroidered. I just thought they went with the kitcheny theme of my kitchen.
so yeah...there it is. The kitchen pictures you've been waiting for. :) Just pretend that you CAN'T see the few things that aren't put away and the few dirty dishes!!!!!

Last weekend we headed to Grand Island for the weekend. We traveled with mom and dad for the first time. Worked out pretty well. It was Isaac's 5th Birthday. So very hard to believe that he's FIVE years old! Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch in the morning. The boys had GREAT fun even though it was kind of cold and rainy. We tried to get a picture of them all together, but they were kind of preoccupied. This was the best we got!
AND - since I seem to have kind of a tradition of posting the most embarassing pictures I can of Drew and Jason - how's this one? Can you believe they LET me take it? They're softening in their old age I think!
Sunday we took a bunch of family pictures for mom and dad's 35th anniversary and hopefully for Christmas Cards. Was kind of fun and the boys were VERY well behaved. No troubles - well, except for the goose poop. :)

Wednesday, September 20
Well, Monday was our first soccer game of the season. It was FREEZING cold outside - about 50º out, 20 mph winds, and a windchill in the 30's somewhere. Levi and I had our gloves and coats and an umbrella (oh yeah, it was misting as well). We were ready to go.
Caleb's team did a great job! Even though we don't keep score... ;) we won 4-0 and CALEB made the first goal for his team! WOOHOO! He was so excited! Jason does such a great job of treating all the boys the same - but *I* could tell he had a little extra woohoo when it was his kid scoring the goal! :)
Because it was so freezing, I didn't take too many pictures (hard to run the camera with gloves on). but here's one I caught of Caleb's team running off the field at halftime!
There's another game tonight, and they're predicting RAIN - so that should be fun. :)
This weekend we're off to Grand Island to celebrate Isaac's FIFTH birthday! I'm sure there will be lots of pics when we get back!

I love soccer season. I didn't notice the transition from young cool fun exciting mom, to not so young, grey hair, not so cool, van driving, SOCCER MOM...
but it happened. :)
I'm sure in the next few weeks you'll get lots of soccer pictures. Caleb's playing again. Levi's pouting again because he's not old enough. I'm following along with my camping chair and camera. We all look forward to soccer. Gets us out of the house. Keeps us super busy. BUT none of us look forward to soccer like Coach Daddy.
I'm serious. Jason LOVES being coach daddy! Just look at him with all those Kindergarteners...ELEVEN of them.
He makes them run laps (while he chases them). He teaches them the fundamentals of HOW to kick a soccer ball. Yells DON'T USE YOUR HANDS about 1000 times during one 1/2 hr practice. He reminds them that their shin guards to on the INSIDE of their socks. And he makes them laugh while he's handing out juice boxes when they're done. He's a total Soccer Dad. He wouldn't have it any other way. And to tell you the truth...neither would I.
Just so the kids don't feel neglected since I blogged all about Daddy - here's a pic of J and Caleb going *one on one* last night at practice. (and yes smartie pants - I was the ONLY mom with a camera at practice!)

Monday, September 11
Well, sorry I haven't blogged anything this week. I haven't taken a single picture this whole week - can you believe it?
Levi's been sick this whole week - he has the Coxsackie Virus - it's the same thing that causes Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. Not something I recomend you trying. :) Levi has only had the mouth sores - no fever and no sores anywhere else. But he went about 5 days without eating much and almost completely without talking. He was quite pitiful and it was pretty hard on this soft old mom. It was SO FUN to hear him talking again yesterday. :) He's such a sweet boy.
So now I'd say he's about 75% better - still a few sores in his mouth giving him some eating problems, but hopefully it won't be much longer and he'll be like new again!
Caleb's doing good - Started soccer with Coach Dad again. He's excited about that. And going back to school. He loves school!
And here's my proud mommy story for the week. :)
Caleb's doing computer stuff at school. They go to the Computer Lab and do a reading game and a math game. "all educational games mom!" he says. But the teacher sent their scores home with them last week and said that at this point an 80% would be really good. WELL, Caleb had an 85 in reading which is good. BUT the BIG news was that in MATH he only missed ONE question and had a 97%!!!!!!! YAY! :)
ok, proud mommy bragging over. :)
I'll be back when I have something more interesting to report.

We had a BUSY weekend! Friday Drew and Michelle and the boys and Mom and Dad all came to our house. Then Drew and Michelle ventured out for Lifelight and we stayed here with the folks and the 4 boys. Well, we got 2.67 inches of rain on FRIDAY! And so Drew and Michelle ended up coming back from Sioux Falls because it was too muddy and wet!
Then Saturday Mom and Dad were brave and took ALL FOUR boys to their house for over night! Jason and I, Drew and Michelle, Fredel and Jason, and Laine all headed back to Lifelight - wearing OLD shoes. :) It was SO MUDDY it was nasty - but we had lots of fun! Lots of great concerts! I'm now a huge fan of Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns! Here's one pic of the concerts - LOTS of people!
Sunday we (Drew and Michelle and Jason and I) traveled to Mom and Dad's. Dad's step-sister and her husband from Chicago were visiting. It was great to see them - Monika and Dad had a great time of catching up and sharing memories.
Then Monday was the day! The guys started early! They're putting the ROOF on Dad's building!
It's hard work. Dad and Jason and Drew and Grandpa Les and Uncle Pat all worked all day! The boys had so much fun playing in the dirt piles, us women made sure they had stuff to drink, helped when we could and made lunch (delicious Indian Tacos).
The guys were pulling these LONG (22 feet) sheets of tin up onto the roof. Pat (who doesn't do heights!) had them loaded on the back of his pickup. Then they'd give them to Dad and Les, who were on the scissor lift that Grandpa Les built. Then from Dad and Les - the sheets would go to Jason and Drew who SLID them up onto the roof and started nailing/screwing them into place.
And then it happened - DAD YELLED - "AMY get a towel - AW JASON - you're gonna have to have stitches on that!" Well, I jumped immediatly - my DAD saying he needs stitches? Must be bad. I yelled at Caleb who was playing in the yard to go in the house and tell grandma that we need a towel - daddy's cut. So he went running. As Jason's climbing down the lift. EVERYONE starts saying - AMY DON'T LOOK! (I'm known as a fainter) so we get him down - get a towel on it- and discuss what to do...well, it's Labor Day so the clinic is closed - but mom calls the PA and she agrees to meet us. Here he is - four stitches later.
He will not be happy if he finds out that I posted this picture - so no one tell him! :)
He told me, "I'm so glad that I did this to my leg at the end of the day - because if it would have been in the morning I would have had to deal with you and your mom yelling at me for going back on the roof and back to work after I did it. This way they were done when I got back"
So that was our exciting weekend...how was yours? :)

Thursday, August 31
whee...nothing like a Carnival to a little kid! The boys had SO MUCH FUN! We just went downtown for one night and let them ride rides. Their favorite was the Dragon Rollercoaster - you can see how seriously they took it - AND by the end they knew that you should put your arms up in the air and YELL!
They also liked going down the huge slide. While Daddy and Levi rode the "boring" (Caleb's words not mine) Carousel (is that right?) Caleb went down the slide like 5 times - then got Daddy and Levi to go down as well. Lucky Daddy!
They also had things that they did individually - Caleb was too big for the bumper boats - so Levi took them by storm.
Caleb got his first turn at DRIVING the bumper cars! He did a great job and wasn't even afraid of bumping people. :)
Last picture is of them in the race car ride...which was sadly disappointing. It didn't run very well, and really didn't go fast enough for their liking. :)
at 7:06 AM
Well, this actually happened before school started - but Caleb did get his Daddy and Me fishing trip. I think Jason was a little concerned at first - they weren't catching anything like he and Levi on their trip. But things turned around when they moved spots and they were quite successful. Unfortunatly someone touched the lense of the camera so some of the pictures are kind of blurry. Oh well!
Caleb said fishing with Daddy was lots of fun - and it was quiet with out Levi talking all the time. :) Caleb's getting to be an expert on lots of things fishing - including bait and casting and tackle.
Jason loves teaching his sons. Pretty cool dad huh?

Monday, August 21
Well, we all knew it was coming! :) Caleb started Kindergarten today! I was kind of sad to see him go, but his excitement was too much! :) HE could not WAIT!
Look at the difference - he looked so small last year! (green shirt is last year)
He just got home from school and spent a half hour telling me EVERYTHING he could think of. :) The only thing he got scolded for so far is that he DIDN'T GO TO THE BATHROOM THE ENTIRE DAY! That is going to have to change! silly kid.
They had art and drew pictures of themselves. He thought lunch was the greatest thing ever - and he was relieved to find out that the weren't going to FORCE him to eat his carrots. :) AND he had TWO servings of chocolate milk! Once with lunch and once with his snack. So I told him maybe he should choose white milk one time and chocolate the other. heh.
Here he is at the school! I forced Jason to take the camera with him when he went to drop him off this morning!
Other news - he says his shoes hurt his feet. So I suppose we'll go hunting for new shoes tonight.
Levi and I survived the day too - He was a little sad this morning, but was excited to get to pick whatever HE wanted to watch on TV!
Now we're all ready to do it again tomorrow!
ps - special thank you to all my loveley friends at ScrapLove - I wouldn't have made it thru today with out you!

Wednesday, August 16
We decided to fit in a quick camping trip before Caleb starts school next week. So last friday we met my folks at Fort Thompson at the campground. WELL...remember how DRY it's been all summer? yep - you guessed it. Just b/c we were camping it RAINED! and when it wasn't raining the wind was blowing 40 miles per hour.
oh well, the kids had fun!
Lots of pictures as usual!
Saturday morning we fished in SERIOUS rain. we were ALL soaked! the kids were troopers tho!
My dad let Caleb drive the boat! LIKE seriously dad in the back seat MY SIX YEAR OLD in the driver's seat. oi... - that's the dam in the background.
I think the cutbanks along the Misouri river are the prettiest place in the world.
Swimming at the beach.
aw...my honey - the champion rock skipper. :)
Here's Levi's only catch of the weekend. He wasn't too happy when Daddy tossed him back!
Pop (my dad) got a headlamp for his birthday, the boys think it's the greatest thing EVER! Thanks Drew and Michelle! :)+
how beautiful is that? sunset...the sun was shining off the banks so beautifully...
sometimes you have to be creative! The boys made their own teetertotter!
